Where does Rooibos come from?
Rooibos ( asplathus Lineraris ) is a superfood, grown only in Cederberg region of the Western Cape, South Africa. Nua Kombucha proudly source our Rooibos directly from the Single Origin Estate, African Dawn. This exceptional Rooibos is from the Groenkol Rooibos Tea Estate in the Clanwilliam region. Rooibos is rich in powerful antioxidants, some of which are unique to Rooibos (aspalathin and nothofagin) and may have anti-inflammatory properties.

South Africans have been enjoying Rooibos for generations and it is often the go to drink to aid colicky infants, adult suffering with poor gut health and in our case, we regularly bathed our infant son in Rooibos to aid his eczema, a tip shared by a close friend.
Rooibos is harvested for the first time approximately 18 months after being transplanted from the nursery. The bushes are harvested once a year during the hot and dry summer months of January until April
After being harvested, the Rooibos is bound into bundles and transferred to high speed cutting machines.
The cut leaves are then fermented under the African sun, a process which gives the tea its distinctive brick-red colour and earthy aroma. The leaves are then sundried and collected by machines into bags.
Lastly, the Rooibos is sifted, pasteurised with pressurized steam and blown with warm dry air before being packed in the factory at Groenkol.
